Equality & Diversity
Our Aim
West Devon Homes is committed to the principles of equality and diversity and aspires to demonstrate this commitment across all its functions as both a service provider and employer. The company’s commitment to this area links to one of its Key Critical Success Factors:
“To embrace the principles of Equality and Diversity as we involve and develop all our people”.
Our Equality Objectives
We will:
- Demonstrate our commitment to Equality and Diversity through supportive and effective Governance,
- Treat all those we provide services for, employ and work with, fairly and with respect,
- Recognise and respond appropriately to the needs of different groups and individuals,
- Challenge, identify and eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment,
- Ensure that all tenants and employees of the Company have equal opportunity to participate, contribute to and benefit from the activities undertaken by West Devon Homes,
- Ensure that all our legislative/regulatory requirements are met and in doing so promote the spirit of equality and diversity which underpins these.
Equality and Diversity Strategy
Our equality and diversity strategy for 2009 to 2011 is available to all, and can be found here.
Equality Strands
The equality strands covered by our strategy are:
-Age
-Disability
-Gender
-Race
-Religion or Belief
-Sexual orientation
-Transgender.
External Organisations
There are many external organisations that provide information and support for each equality strand. Some of these can be found on our useful links page.
Employment
As part of our equality and diversity commitment, we will ensure that, wherever possible, the demographics of our employees reflect that of the local community. As part of the Company's annual demographics report, age, ethnicity and disability statistics for our employee population is displayed alongside the most recent Census information for the West Devon area and can therefore be used for comparison purposes.
Currently, we are under-represented by employees under 30. We will therefore be making a positive effort to inform younger people about any suitable vacancies we have by targeting specialised websites such as GradSouthWest which attract interest predominantly from younger people wishing to enter the job market.
