West Devon Homes also provides Sheltered Housing.
What is Sheltered Housing?
Sheltered Housing is specifically designated accommodation intended for occupation by people of retirement age, who would benefit from the support provided by a support service. West Devon Homes provides a fully mobile support service, delivered by a team of professional support officers under the guidance of the Sheltered and Supported Services Manager.
A Support Plan is completed with every new tenant, which is updated periodically to ensure all tenants? needs are being met, wherever possible. Goals are identified and Support Officers work with the tenant to achieve these outcomes. West Devon Homes liaises with other statutory and voluntary organisations in order to provide an holistic service. Funding is obtained from Supporting People to cover the cost of the Sheltered Housing service for people in receipt of qualifying benefits. Please see the accompanying leaflet:
Your Support Plan...helping you to be independent for further information. Properties offered in Sheltered Schemes include flats, bedsits or bungalows. They all have central heating and are connected to an emergency community alarm system. Some Sheltered Schemes also offer shared facilities such as laundries and communal rooms.
Concessionary TV Licences
Residents over 75 years old currently qualify for a free TV licence. If less than 75 years old, new residents will usually have to purchase a TV licence. They could, however, benefit from a concessionary (Group) TV licence. West Devon Homes deals with all applications for Concessionary TV licences and where a concessionary fee is payable, the cost is included within the service charge, paid with the rent. Please ask a Support Officer for further details.
